Mayor welcomes new branch of long-established funeral firm to Teignmouth

The Mayor of Teignmouth Cllr Robert Phipps has officially opened the town’s new branch of long-established firm JH Way Funeral Services.

Part of the Funeral Partners family of high-quality funeral directors with a sister branch based in Dawlish, the modern and welcoming branch is based in Pellew Arcade. It will provide local families with sympathetic funeral arranging facilities and a chapel of rest where intimate funeral services can also be held.

At the opening, attended by former owners John and Wendy Way, Funeral Director Caz Denning and the Funeral Partners team presented cheques for £100 to the Mayor for each of his three charities: Alice Cross Centre for the elderly, arts charity The Helen Foundation and Homeless in Teignbridge Support (HITS).

Experienced Funeral Director Caz, who has served her home-town community of Teignmouth for many years, is managing the service provided by the new branch and said: “Our opening was a lovely occasion supported by Red Rock Harmony singers and attended by two black horses and carriage alongside our brand new limousine.

“I’m very excited about working in this beautiful branch and being based back in Teignmouth. We can now care for local families, and they can visit their loved ones, in the local area.”

Caz joined the funeral profession in 2004 and started working with J H Way, initially based at their Dawlish branch, a year ago. She has strong links with the community as a member of Teignmouth Baptist Church and a volunteer with Teignmouth Soup Kitchen. Over the years she has served on local committees including Teignmouth Hospital League of Friends, Trustee/Honorary Secretary and Unit Appointed Chaplain of Teignmouth Sea Cadets (TS Canonteign) and PCC Secretary for St James’ Church.

The official opening was attended by invited guests from the local area and included a dedication of the chapel of rest by Father Mark Skelton from Our Lady and St Patrick Church, Rev Roderick Withnell from the Haldon Team Ministry, Rev Jamie Redfern, Minister of Teignmouth Baptist Church, Rev Annie Church, Rector of Shaldon Parish and Rev Catherine Wagstaff of Teignmouth Methodist Church.

Sandra Murphy, Funeral Partners’ Area Development Manager for the South West said: “Opening this new branch sends a very positive message about how we are investing in developing our businesses in Devon, creating new opportunities for local people and providing the best possible facilities and care for bereaved families.

“So please do pop into the new branch for a chat, to have a look around or to find out anything you need to know about arranging a funeral. Caz and the team can also provide advice on prepaid funeral plans and memorial masonry. The team is there to support you 365 days a year.”
